Seeking Serenity is a collection of poems and prayers that recount my journey towards finding personal healing. As a church worker who spent decades of his life serving others, I lost myself in the process of blind obedience. The strong emphasis of Sunday sermons and church activities in gaining more money, more popularity, and more political power left me disillusioned. It turns out, money, popularity, and politics could not save my soul. I was restless in my own sins. My sick and suffering soul was yearning for far more.
That is when I decided to go back to the roots of Christianity. I did not want to deny my faith in Christ, but I also could no longer bear to practice Modern Day Christianity for the sake of my own sanity. I wanted to practice the principles of the Christian faith as it was passed down from the beginning. And so my journey towards serenity began.
Seeking Serenity dives deep into the joys and sorrows of seeking God, the weight of owning one's own shortcomings, the fear of pursuing the light in an unexplored world, and the daily struggles of accepting one's own limitations and dysfunctions as a pathway towards transformation. Through poetry I share the human experience of desire, disappointment, and desperation. Through prayer I rediscover once again the voice of God in these overwhelming moments of brokenness. Seeking Serenity is for the weary God-seeker who longs for a place to belong. It is a roadmap from one weary traveler to another on how he found his way back home.
